Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony 2022- 2023

Madalyn has been appointed as the principal clarinetist and the Eb clarinet soloist of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony for its 2022-23 concert season. She is also one of the featured woodwind ensemble soloists of the award-winning Marcus marching band this school year. Congratulations!
Madalyn is a member of the premier program at the academy and a junior at Marcus High School. She studied clarinet with Dr. Qian since seventh grade at Downing Middle School.

First Chair, Downing Middle School Band, First Clarinet Section, All-Region Band

Cheyenne is the first chair of the Downing Middle School Band. She has been selected as a member of the first clarinet section in the All-District and All-Region Bands 2022-2023. Congratulations!

Conductor and Founder, the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Clarinet Choir

Dr. Qian is named the first ever conductor of the GDYO clarinet choir.
The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Clarinet Choir is the newest member of the GDYO family. It is scheduled to premier in the Fall of 2022 to provide music education and performance opportunities for Clarinetists with demonstrated musical ability. Students audition each spring before a panel of judges with scales, solos and orchestral excerpts. The GDYO Clarinet Choir performs three concerts annually where they are introduced to a large variety of repertoire.
Many of the CSRA students have been regular members of the GDYO program. Last year alone (2021-2022), two of the four clarinetists from GDYO top orchestra were Dr.Qian's students. Two of the four bass clarinetists in the top GDYO band were also from the CSRA.

First chair, Marcus High School Wind Symphony

Madison is a member of the CSRA Premier Program.
She has performed with the Marcus High School Wind Symphony as the first chair since her junior year. She is also a proud section leader of the Marcus Marching Band, which was recognized as the State UIL Silver medalist at the competition in San Antonio this past year, and a finalist in the BoA National Championships.
As a high academic achiever, Madison is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society.
After winning a competitive audition, she will perform with the clarinet choir of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Program in the fall.

First Chair, Middle School All-Region Symphonic Band and Outstanding Soloist Award

Grayson was a member of the Junior Program and completed 8th grade at Lamar Middle School.
He was awarded Outstanding Soloist during his Division 1 Solo and Ensemble Contest. He was also the first chair Bb clarinet in the All-Region Symphonic Band, All-District Symphonic Band, and Lamar Middle School Symphonic Band.
Grayson maintained honor roll status the entire school year while taking two high-school-level classes as well as all Pre-AP classes. Grayson completed the LISD dual language program by completing AP Spanish 4 in 8th grade and had the opportunity to be immersed in the Costa Rican rain forest for two weeks this summer.
Outside of school, he is a member of the USA Prime baseball club. His team claimed the championship in the 14U open gold bracket in the NCS Don Myer 13th Annual World Series Tournament.
Grayson will attend Marcus High School in the fall and plans to join the football team , try out for the Baseball team and perform with the marching band.

Diego is a member of the CSRA Premier Program.
He is the low reeds section leader and featured soloist for the Colleyville Heritage High School Marching Band. He is a TMEA 6A All-State player (8th overall), second chair of TMEA Area Band, and first chair of TMEA Region 31 band.
His most recent achievements include Texas Tech Band Camp Saxophone Principal Chair, Grapevine- Colleyville ISD Music Merit Concerto Competition first prize, and GCISD Solo Contest Outstanding Award on Bass Clarinet and Soprano Sax. He was also a featured sax soloist at the Oklahoma University Saxophone Summer Camps.

In the University Interscholastic League Solo & Ensemble Contest, Madalyn has received a Division I rating four years in a row (2018-2022). Last year, she received the Patrick S. Gilmore Award for Outstanding Freshman Performer and contributions to the Marcus Band.
After winning a competitive audition, she will perform with the wind symphony of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Program during its 2022-23 season.

Featured Soloist and First Chair, Hebron High School Marching Band, Three-Year 6A All-Stater
June 22, 2022
George is a member of the CSRA Premier Program.
He is the featured soloist and first clarinetist of the Hebron High School Marching Band, which was placed No.1 for both the BOA Super Regional Championship and UIL State 2021.
He was also the principal clarinet for All-State Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eb soloist with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.
This fall, he will attend the Cleveland Institute of Music and study with the members of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.
George is a member of the CSRA Premier Program.

Squad Leader, Marcus Marching Band

Jordan is a member of the CSRA Premier Program.
She finished her sophomore year as one of only four sophomore squad leaders for the Marcus Marching Band, which was recognized as the State UIL Silver Medalist at the competition in San Antonio this past year, as well as a finalist in the BOA National Championships.
Jordan won an Outstanding Section of the Year award for Symphonic Band at Marcus and volunteered at multiple UIL events.
Jordan was offered membership in the English Honor Society at Marcus and won The Magnificent Marauder award for Business Management this year. Jordan has achieved all of this while taking all honors and AP classes.

Four Year All- Stater
July 4th, 2022
Caroline is a member of the CSRA Premier Program and the principal clarinetist, as well as the drum major, of the DeKalb High School band.
She has been accepted to every music school she applied for (University of Texas at Austin, University of North Texas, and Baylor University).
Instead, she will attend Texas A&M University majoring in business, and will perform with the top band there this coming fall!


Top Tier High School Rating & Soloist with a College Jazz Band

Alex is a member of the Premier Program and a senior at Allen High School.
He has accepted an invitation to perform with a college-level jazz band and received a top-tier rating for his clarinet solo.
Last semester, Alex was awarded the prize for the chosen logo of a local art gallery. He has also started his own design business called Hughes Studio 1.

Current Band Leader at Midwest Clinics and Future Pediatric Surgeon
July 8, 2022
Anika just graduated from Leander High School (LHS) and served as a clarinet section leader for three years and as a drum major during her junior and senior years. She also accompanied the Leander Wind Ensemble at the Midwest International Band Clinic in the winter of 2021.
During the banquet of her senior year, Anika was awarded the Eggleston Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is annually given to a singular Leander Band senior who has exemplified not only advanced playing abilities, but strong character and a loving heart.
Anika was a leader outside of the band program as well. During her senior year, she served as Health Occupations Students of America president as well as the National Honor Society president for her school. She is an AP scholar as well as a commended National Merit Scholar. Anika is also an International Baccalaureate candidate, was the female winner of the 2022 Senior Lion Heart Award, and finished high school with the 5th highest GPA in her class.
Anika is attending Baylor University next semester to double-major in Biochemistry and Business in the Honors and Business Fellows Program. She hopes to become a pediatric surgeon one day with the end goal of owning her own practice!

Since 2020, she has received "Division 1" from the judges for her solo performances in the University Interscholastic League Solo and Ensemble Contest. She also played in an ensemble for UIL last school year, and her ensemble received the same rating.
In Cheyenne’s free time, she enjoys martial arts, archery, and riding horses.

Nicolas is a member of the CSRA Premier Program and played as the principal bass clarinetist of the Plano Senior High School Wind Symphony and

Elite music schools have accepted him both in Texas and Michigan after two months of intensive soprano clarinet training. This fall, he will attend the University of North Texas and major in music education.

Joseph is the newest member of the CSRA Premier Program. He was a qualifier for the Area Band and a soloist for the Lone Star Youth Orchestra. He was the second chair in the Guyer High School Wind Ensemble. A high academic achiever, he is part of the NHS sans NEHS. He was rated first division in solo and ensemble contests playing Rossini’s Introduction, Theme, and Variations.
Joseph will also perform as a part of the GDYO clarinet choir this coming fall.
